Recover Epcom DVR FootageTurboHD, EV and XR Recorders Sold Through Syscom
Epcom is the house brand that Syscom distributes across Mexico and Latin America, and its DVRs and NVRs are built by Hikvision. Searches for recuperar videos borrados de un DVR Epcom, or for an Epcom disk that no longer shows in the recorder, land on the same answer: the video is still on the disk, and a Windows PC can read it once the right software is in front of it.
Epcom DVRs and NVRs are Hikvision OEM units, so their disks use the Hikvision recording format rather than a Windows file system. To recover deleted Epcom footage, shut the recorder down, take the disk out, attach it to a Windows PC and say no when Windows offers to initialise it. Recovery software that understands the Hikvision format then shows every recording on the disk, deleted ones included, and exports them as MP4. The recorder password is not involved.
Epcom's recorder families carry names such as TURBOHD, EV, S04 TURBO G3 and XR, and the model codes line up with Hikvision equivalents. The apps are the Hikvision ones under their own names, Hik-Connect for phones and iVMS-4200 for the PC, and the firmware menus match a Hikvision recorder screen for screen. Syscom itself appeared as a Hikvision OEM in earlier years and now sells the Epcom line, so recovery on either badge follows the Hikvision route below.
Why does Windows not show the Epcom disk?
Because Hikvision firmware skips the file system. It keeps a master record at the head of the disk, an index of which camera recorded when and the video itself in large fixed blocks. The blocks hold raw H.264 or H.265 with short headers, nothing a media player can open on its own. Windows looks for NTFS or FAT, sees neither and shows the disk as unallocated in Disk Management or pops up the initialise dialog. Saying yes to that dialog overwrites the master record, which is the one part recovery cannot do without.
"An Epcom disk is a Hikvision disk with a Syscom invoice. The recovery does not change."

How is deleted video recovered from an Epcom DVR?
The disk comes out of the recorder and goes to a Windows PC. Nothing is written to it at any stage.
- Power the Epcom recorder off. Disconnect the adapter. A recorder set to overwrite is reusing blocks every hour it runs.
- Remove the disk. Undo the lid, unplug the SATA data and power connectors and lift the disk out. Note which bay it sat in on a two-bay unit.
- Attach it to the PC. A SATA-to-USB adapter is enough. Close the Windows initialise dialog without accepting. Use a write blocker if the video is for a legal matter.
- Open the disk in DVRXaminer. The software reads the Hikvision master record and index, lays the recordings out by channel and date and flags segments the recorder had deleted.
- Export to a different disk. Save the segments as MP4 or AVI onto the PC or a USB stick, with the original timestamps kept.
What if the Epcom DVR password is forgotten?
The recovery above does not ask for it. For the recorder itself, Epcom publishes the Hikvision reset route: install the SADP tool version 3.0.0.1 or later on a PC on the same network, select the recorder, choose Forgot Password and export the XML request file. Send that file to Epcom technical support, who reply with an unlock file, usually within 15 to 20 minutes during support hours. The file works on the day it was issued only, and the new password must be eight characters or more. Epcom's own write-up of the procedure is on the Epcom blog. Where security questions or a GUID file were configured at activation, the reset can be done on the spot without support.
Epcom DVR disco duro no detectado: what does it mean?
A Spanish-language search for this is one of the most common Epcom queries, and the answer is rarely dramatic. The Hikvision firmware reports a disk it cannot use as Abnormal, Does Not Exist or No HDD Detected. The second and third point at a loose connector, a tired power adapter or a disk that no longer spins up. Abnormal means the disk answered but its index did not pass a check, and the firmware offers a format as the cure. A format erases the recordings, so if they matter the disk goes to a PC first. Once the video is safe, a fresh surveillance disk goes into the recorder.
Why will an Epcom backup not play?
Backups made from the recorder's USB export menu are wrapped in Hikvision's own container, and VLC or Windows Media Player cannot open them. Hikvision's VSPlayer plays them, and it can convert them to standard MP4. Footage recovered from the disk with DVRXaminer skips this step because it is written straight to MP4. The Hikvision MP4 export guide explains the conversion for backups you already hold.
Which Epcom situations can be recovered?
| Epcom situation | Recoverable? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Clip deleted from the menu | Yes, until overwritten | Power off straight away |
| Password forgotten, recorder locked | Yes | Disk is read without the login |
| HDD Abnormal, format refused | Yes | Read the disk before any format |
| Disk formatted in the recorder | Partly | Older blocks survive until reused |
| Recorder burnt out, disk fine | Yes | Dock the disk on a PC |
| Disk mechanically failed | Depends | Image it once, then scan the image |
In short
- Epcom TurboHD, EV and XR recorders are Hikvision OEM units, so the disk is in the Hikvision format.
- Shut down, remove the disk, plug it into a Windows PC and wave away the initialise dialog.
- DVRXaminer reads the master record and index and exports deleted Epcom video as MP4.
- A forgotten password goes through SADP and Epcom support, and never blocks the recovery.
Common questions
Can I recover deleted video from an Epcom DVR?
Yes, provided the recorder has not reused the space. Shut the Epcom DVR down, remove the disk, connect it to a Windows computer and close the initialise dialog. Software that reads the Hikvision recording format shows every recording by channel and date, deleted ones included, and exports them as MP4.
Is Epcom a Hikvision brand?
Epcom DVRs and NVRs are made by Hikvision and sold through Syscom in Mexico and Latin America. The TURBOHD, EV, S04 TURBO G3 and XR families use Hikvision firmware, the Hik-Connect app and the iVMS-4200 client, and the disk format is the Hikvision one.
How do I reset an Epcom DVR password?
Use the SADP tool, version 3.0.0.1 or later, on a PC on the same network. Select the recorder, choose Forgot Password, export the XML file and send it to Epcom support. The reply arrives in about 15 to 20 minutes during support hours, works that day only and the new password needs eight characters or more.
Can I recover Epcom footage without the password?
Yes. The password guards the menu of the recorder and has no hold over the disk. Recovery reads the disk directly on a PC, so a locked recorder, a forgotten password or an installer who is no longer around makes no difference to the result.
Why does my Epcom DVR say the disk is not detected?
No HDD Detected or Does Not Exist usually means a loose SATA connector, a weak power adapter or a disk that will not spin up. Abnormal means the disk answered but its index failed a check. In each case the recordings are still on the disk. Read it on a PC before accepting any format.
Why will my Epcom USB backup not open on a computer?
The recorder's export menu writes a Hikvision container that ordinary players do not understand. Open it with Hikvision's VSPlayer or convert it there to MP4. Video recovered from the disk with DVRXaminer is already in MP4 and plays anywhere.
Recover your Epcom recordings
DVRXaminer reads the Hikvision format on an Epcom DVR or NVR disk, flags deleted segments by channel and date and exports MP4 with the timestamps kept. Run the free scan first and preview what the disk still holds.
